A Life-Changing Walk with Jesus

A Life-changing Walk with Jesus

Encounters with Christ Sermon Series

Luke 24:13-35, Luis Cruz,  GCF Durham

Change is the hardest thing to do. It is naturally opposed to our ingrained habits. Being a Christian is all about changes. However, people don't want changes at the expense of their comfort. Nonetheless, all the best things in life are worth the hard work we put into it. And for change to take palce it must start in how we see life.

1. A change in perspective. Luke 24:19-21

After his resurrection, Jesus appeared to two of His disciples and one was named Cleopas whose name was mentioned twice in the New Testament (John 19:25 although a different variance). These two disciples were discussing what had just happened in Jerusalem – the sacrifices, death and burial of Jesus. They also described Jesus as…

  • A prophet, righteous and morally upright. They also said that…

  • They had hoped that Jesus would have been the One to free them from Roman oppression.

  • They heard rumors of Jesus’ resurrection (back in verses 22-24).

But, was Jesus a mighty prophet only? According to the Book of John, He is “the Great I am.” Jesus used the same phrase “I AM” in seven declarations about Himself. He combines “I AM” with remarkable allegories which express His saving relationship toward us.

2. A change in emotional state. Luke 24:30-32

“26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.”

“Were not your hearts burning within you whenever you read and meditate upon the Bible?”

3. A change in behavior. Luke 24:33-35

Transformation of behavior usually takes place in a person’s life after the individual accepts the truth about Jesus. But walking with Jesus must take place every day. If we want to become a better Christian. A daily walk with Jesus can significantly change our perspective, our feelings and our behavior.
