Let Her Works Bring Her Praise!

All Women Celebration

Genesis 2:18; Proverbs 31:30-31

Luis Cruz, GCF Durham

Today we honor all women whose been working hard to be the kind of persons God designed them to be. Whether you are single, married but have no children, auntie, sister, grandmother, or simply those who physically gave birth, God created you and blessed you with many abilities that would help make our families better.

After creating Adam, the first ever man on planet earth, God put him to work. Adam was to look after God’s garden of Eden. God saw how lonely Adam was and could not do the task alone. So, God said, “I will make a helper suitable for him.” Eve was created for a special purpose. She was to provide companionship, to complement and to support her husband. They were put together to accomplish greater things for the Lord. Thus, if women would function according to God’s design, they would be able to glorify God together.

And to all of us,

1. God commanded the honoring of godly women.

Proverbs 31: 30-31, “30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. 31 Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”

2. God is glorified when we obey His command.

Proverbs 31:30, “31 Honor her for all that her hands have done, let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”

  • Elders of the walled city of Solomon would gather and publicly announce important edicts of their reigning King.

  • God, as King, is glorified when we publicly honor our women because of their good works.

  • Their good works reveal God’s purpose for creating them.

3. God gave women the ability to provide.

Proverbs 31:13 and 15, “She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands… 15 She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family...”

  • Provides love, care, support, companionship, and advice.

  • Contributes financially in support of the husband.

  • Able to share good ideas for the well-being of the family.

4. God gave women enough strength for their multiple roles.

Proverbs 31:16-19, “6 She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. 17 She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.18 She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night. 19 In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers.”

  • Businesswoman, administrative assistant to the husband.

Manager of the home, counselor of children and husband.

5. God gifted women with great intelligence.

Proverbs 31:26-27, “26 She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. 27 She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.”

Exodus 20:12, “12 Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”

  • This is the first command with a promise of blessing.

Proverbs 1:8, “8 Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.”

  • An assertion to listen to our mother’s godly teaching.

  • It is for our own good.

  • All of God’s commandments benefit us and ultimately gives glory to God.

Challenge:

  • Thank all women for all that they do for the family.

Recognize their abilities. Be specific. Let them know you appreciate them.
