Bible Text: 2 Corinthians 8.1-5 Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 8.1-7 Sermon Summary: What is our purpose for living? Do we live just to eat and eat just to live? Do we live just to enjoy the pleasures of life in whatever way we can? We know that we are the “salt of the earth” and “light of the world” (Matthew 5:13-16) – being different to make a difference – and to be “witnesses” for Jesus Christ (Acts 1:8). But this call involves giving of ourselves, our time, our effort, and our resources. Our vocations are just means to fulfill God’s purpose in our life. Are we willing to give? And give more? Are we living to give? This morning we will discover how the Macedonian Christians gave and basing on their example, we will find ways to apply some stewardship principles in our daily life. Their way of life entails giving: 1. SACRIFICIALLY (v. 2a) – “In the midst of a very severe trial…” 2.  SMILINGLY (v. 2b) – “…their overflowing joy…” 3.  SINCERELY (v. 2c, 4) – “…and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity” (v.2c). “they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people.”(v.4) 4.  SELFLESSLY (v. 3) – “For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability.” 5.  SYSTEMATICALLY (1 Corinthians 16:2) – “On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income...” SECRET: “They gave themselves first of all to the Lord.” (2Corinthians 8:5)
